Gotham S2 Fall Finale: Part One

Description

I can think of very few relationships as exceptional and compelling as the one shared by Selina and Bruce. I simply cannot say that enough. :)

Based on previous comments, I can see not many are very fond of Silver St. Cloud. I think Silver, as a character, served a purpose to the overall arc of Gotham's fall finale. And if she's done anything to affect the batcat ship, she's only helped strengthen it. I think she's an interesting character. I look forward to seeing her return to Gotham and see how her character may develop.

You are a treasure :)

As for the Silver character, I summed it up in two posts a while ago.

"When Gotham introduced Silver St. Cloud, I criticized it, thinking it was a mistake to add another pretty face so soon - one being a major canon love interest to boot - merely as a plot device illustrating the basic Batcat dynamic.

I was dead wrong. The introduction of Silver has proved a functional triumph for the show and the character serves a purpose beyond that of sex object and roadblock. It is in fact quite stellar storytelling.

Silver is the girl teaching Bruce the art of psychological manipulation by example."

... and:

"As we all know the show has introduced Silver St. Cloud as a love interest for Bruce this season. Now, I’ve talked earlier about why I don’t think that was a stellar idea, but if I’m to be cynical about it, it’s a fantastic development for Batcat shippers!

Yes, I understand your confusion. How can it be good for us if Bruce and Silver hook up? The answer lies all in how and why she was introduced.

Bruce was always going to have many girls over his life. That’s canon, that’s something we expect to happen. Selina is his constant. She’s the eternal tease and in my opinion the only logical endgame partner, if we even accept that Batman can have a happy endgame. Most would say he can not, but however we swing it, Selina will always be there, on stage or in the shadows.

Gotham already has the strongest foreshadowing and anchoring for the Batcat relationship of any retelling of the Batman story. Selina is written into the story witnessing the murder of Bruce’s parents. They strike a friendship with clear romantic undertones even as kids. When Bruce puts on the mask, he will have already known Selina for several years, maybe a decade. This is unheard of and a significant departure from traditional mythology. [...]

Silver is introduced as a contrast for Bruce and Selina and a plot device for Theo getting closer to Bruce. She is on one hand meant to make Selina jealous, to showcase the differences between her and Bruce by showing him with someone of his own social class and to force her to confront her love for him and fight to get him back. On the other hand she is meant as a weapon, either as accomplice or as pawn, for Theo to use against the Wayne family. Neither role bodes well for her longevity.

Again, this is unheard of. Silver wasn’t a “contrast” in the comics. She was the primary love interest of multiple story arcs. [...] In this setting, Silverspoon are less about Bruce and Silver and more about Batcat and about Bruce and Theo."
